PSNY Virtual Workshop: Personae as Personal Power

PSNY Virtual Workshop: Personae as Personal Power

Online event
Overview

Part of The Poetry Society of New York's Weekly Virtual Workshop Series.

An all-levels generative virtual workshop with poet Jalynn Harris!

In this workshop, participants will tap into their personal power by activating distant and distinct parts of their personal environment both externally and internally through the use of personae. By interrogating personae poems of the peculiar in Douglas Kearney’s “Black Automaton,” poems of the environment in Louise Glück’s “the wild Iris,” and personae poems of lineage such as Rite Dove’s “Thomas and Beulah,” participants will activate an internal eye that transforms into a poetic “I” that utilizes the senses to craft sharp and resonating personae poems.

About the Instructor: Jalynn Harris is a writer, educator, and book designer from Baltimore. They are the founder of SoftSavagePress, an indie publisher promoting the works of Black artists. Their literary work can be found in Poets.org, Poetry Magazine, The Best American Poetry 2022, Feminist Studies, The Hopkins Review, Gulf Coast & elsewhere.

**This workshop will take place on Zoom.**
