PSNY Virtual Workshop: Subways & Streetlights
Part of The Poetry Society of New York's Weekly Virtual Workshop Series.
An all-levels generative virtual workshop with poet Christine Degenaars!
Explore the inspiration of in-between places—how waiting can create space for wild thought, how transportation can transport us. We’ll look at the poem as a moving vessel, alive with rhythm, sound, and surprise. In this workshop, you’ll encounter work by poets on the go, including Walt Whitman, Frank O’Hara, Denis Johnson, Marie Howe, and others, and write toward the unexpected revelations that arise in transit. This generative session invites all levels of poets to step into motion and see what poems might emerge.
About the Instructor: Christine Degenaars has work published in Rattle, Tar River Poetry, Epiphany, Nimrod International Journal, Cider Press Review, & elsewhere. She was nominated for the 2023 Pushcart Prize and in 2022 was selected as a semi-finalist in the 92Y Discovery Poetry Contest. She graduated from Hunter College with a Master of Fine Arts in Poetry. Thin Glass, her debut collection, was published by Fernwood Press in 2025 (https://a.co/d/3JKPCUG). She lives in New York. You can read more of her work at christine.degenaars.com
