PSNY Virtual Workshop: The Choreography of Poetry
Part of The Poetry Society of New York's Weekly Virtual Workshop Series.
An all-levels generative virtual workshop with poet Kayla Schwab!
In this all-levels workshop, we'll explore the common threads between dance and poetry, including rhythm, form, movement, and storytelling. We will examine how choreography comes alive in poems by Patricia Smith, Theodore Roethke, Maya Angelou, Rita Dove, and others. After a brief and accessible movement practice, we'll embody the techniques used by these poets and bring them into our own writing practice through playful prompts geared toward writing a poem that dances and moves on the page.
