Pulse of the City: Cocooned Together Eco-Dyeing Workshop
Learn eco-dyeing with Mandisa Smith while contributing to a sculptural artwork in Detroit.
Join artist and facilitator Mandisa Smith for a hands-on textile workshops exploring wet felting a an act of creativity, care, and collective making. Participants will contribute to Cocooned Together, a large-scale wet felted cocoon sculpture that will live at Oakland Ave Urban Farm in Detroit.
Through these workshops, participants will learn foundational fiber arts techniques while taking part in a unique wellness-focused creative research experience. Using simple, non-invasive biometric tools and reflective surveys, we will explore how creative labor and tactile making impact the body and mind — including heart rate, respiration, stress, focus, and emotional wellbeing.
No prior experience is necessary. Participants are invited to slow down, work with natural materials, connect with community, and become part of a living artwork rooted in healing, transformation, and collective care.
