kNoname Artist / Roderick George’s The Grave's TearsAt Mainstage, ’62 Center, Williams College<a href="https://www.knonameartist.com/" title="https://www.knonameartist.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Roderick George</a>’s The Grave’s Tears brings urgent, contemporary dance to our stage, blending ballet, improvisation, and modern movement with evocative music and narration. Featuring an all-male cast, the work draws from George’s perspective as a queer Black artist and explores themes of identity, resilience, and community within the LGBTQ+ experience. The Grave’s Tears honors those impacted by the HIV/AIDS epidemic and celebrates the power of solidarity and survival. This performance is a dynamic opportunity for our campus to engage with vital social issues through innovative choreography-inviting conversation, reflection, and connection across disciplines. Born in Houston, Texas, George studied at the Houston Ballet Academy. Roderick George was a bronze winner of the Youth American Grand Prix in 2005 and a YoungArts Winner and Presidential Scholar in 2003. Roderick George is a Recipient of the 2024 inaugural Jacob’s Pillow Men Dancers Award and of the 2024 Princess Grace Award for Choreography.kNoname Artist is a Berlin-founded, now New York City-based company created in 2015 by Roderick George. kNoname Artist is a collective that strives to use art as a form of protest and healing method to find agency. The company invests in reflecting the times, both past and current events, and using the culture of origins as a vessel for creative expression. The knowledge of division created by colorism, class, and social-economic differences provoked the mind of George, yet also with joy and hope to motivate the growth of kNoname Artist. The mission of this multidisciplinary company is to gift its spectators’ evocative stories told through raw, percussive, and fluid movement interspersed with dialogue and humor. The iterative and evolving vision for the company melds dynamic movement, music, and scenic landscapes into experiential works exploring themes of queerness, blackness, and human rights.kNoname Artist – Roderick George is a 2025 NDP Finalist Grant Award recipient.
