Q-MoB Elder Activities

These events are less physically strenuous and cater to men who may be retired or have more mature tastes, like walks & easy hikes, potlucks, game nights, card games, arts & culture outings, restaurant & bar/pub outings, & coffee klatches.

This is a list of Q-MoB's recreation, fitness and healing activities designed to help men enjoy moving their bodies in fun, creative, & community building ways.

Q-MoB has launched a series of monthly Science Salons and this month weve invited a panel of really smart and practical local experts to review local and national data and resources about isolation among rural queer men and what we can do to broaden and deepen our connections with our local queer neighbors. We've asked our experts to focus on data and resources that inspires conversations about both the negative consequences of isolation and screen addiction AND the very practical and fun strategies we can implement today to broaden and deepen our connections with neighbors &amp; supportive organizations here in our rural region.PANELISTS:<ul><li>Andy Ottoson, Senior Public Health Planner on Addiction Services for the Berkshire Regional Planning Commision</li><li>Charles Redd, RN, Chief Diversity Officer for Berkshire Health Systems &amp; former Emergency Room Supervisor</li><li>Dr. Chalres Popper, MD, Psychiatrist, long-time Instructor at Harvard Medical School, long-time Psychiatric Researcher at Harvard Medical School</li><li>Isaac Share, Home and Community Based Programs Supervisor, Elder Services of Berkshire County, Inc.</li></ul>Our Science Salons are designed to synthesize the best scientific studies we have about the rapidly growing incidence of isolation among rural queer men, the health consequences of that isolation, and most importantly the data that demonstrate how rural queer men can and are overcoming isolation and screen addiction. We are also interested in data that show how powerful and fun in-person connections can be, and how powerful they are at reducing isolation risks and building resiliency, health, and happiness.BOTTOMLINE: We are looking for scientific data that inspires both community conversations about how to end isolation AND community and individual actions to broaden and deepen our connections with our queer neighbors and other allies in our community. We want science that inspires action! Only park in spaces reserved for the South Congregational Church (the old name of UCC Pittsfield). After parking find the South entrance door of the church, which is right across from the loading zone of the Masonic Temple. If your arrive more than 10 mins late, please text Bart at 503-734-6508 so he can send someone to open the door. You will then come up 2 flights of stairs and turn right to find the big Parlor, which is at the front of the church.If you are going north on South Street, right after passing the Colonial Theater, turn left on Church Street &amp; follow the directions above to park &amp; find the Parlor in the ChurchThis is an old church with quite a maze of hallways &amp; levels. It is and adventure for anyone trying to find the Parlor, but it can be fun, especially when we provide you with a guide.DIFFERENTLY-ABLED ACCESS: If you need elevator, let us know and we'll show you how to find it when you enter through the South Entrance door. This is an old church with quite a maze of hallways &amp; levels, but it is wheel-chair accessible after we help you figure out the maze. It is and adventure for anyone trying to find the Parlor, but it can be fun, especially when we provide you with a guide.CARPOOLING &amp; RIDE-SHARING: Because parking is limited, we encourage you to carpool, and Q-MoB's Ride Coordinator will be reaching out to people who indicate they ae willing to carpool and to find rides for men who don't have cars. Car pooling helps you make new friends &amp; neighbors, save money on gas, reduce your carbon footprint, &amp; prevents parking challenges for our hosts.
