This Educational Rockhounding Workshop is designed to support independent rockhounding and geology exploration through instructional education and geological interpretation. The workshop focuses on learning, observation, and responsible rockhounding practices rather than guided recreation.
Participants engage in structured educational sessions led by an experienced rockhounding educator with decades of field knowledge in Arizona and beyond. Instruction emphasizes geology fundamentals, mineral identification, tool awareness, and land stewardship to support participants’ independent exploration.
🔎 Geological & Mineral Education
Participants receive educational instruction on mineral characteristics, geological context, and observational techniques commonly used in rockhounding and geology studies.
🧠 Instruction & Interpretation
Instructional sessions are designed to enhance understanding and learning. Educational information is provided for general knowledge and awareness and does not involve directing participants to specific digging locations.
🛠 Tools, Techniques & Safety Awareness
Participants learn about non-mechanized hand tools, safety considerations, and commonly used rockhounding methods through educational discussion and demonstration.
This workshop supports learning and understanding and is not a commercial outfitting, guiding, or recreational tour service.
Workshop Details
- Includes instructional educational session and a full-day independent educational field exploration
- Participants continue self-directed exploration following instructional sessions
- Participants may bring their own hand tools; educational field tools may be available for demonstration and learning purposes
- Check-in begins at 9:00 AM
- Participants are asked to refill any disturbed areas and respect marked boundaries
- Participants may retain select finds for personal educational purposes
- Lunch and personal items are the responsibility of the participant

Bookings made within 72 hours may be converted to an Independent Rockhounding & Geology Educational Exploration or refunded.
