<h2>Scioto Saturdays – Hike #5</h2>Saturday, May 23, 2026Join us for our 5th Hike through the beautiful but challenging Scioto Trail section of the Buckeye Trail! Today's hike is all on road as we traverse from the area of Scioto Trail State Forest and head toward the Pike Lake State Park area. 📍 MEETING POINT (BOTH HIKES)Scioto Trail Pt 29 (Fredneck's Mini Mart near cross roads of state route 772 &amp; Potts Hill/Nipgen Rd)*NOTE: Both hikes are meeting here for the group photo.*Scioto Trail Point 29 (Fredneck's Mini Mart) 144 State Route 772 Bainbridge, OH 45612 Coordinates: 39.18985,-83.1502Please park furthest away from the doors so we do not inconvenience their customers.There are no public bathrooms here! Please do not inconvenience the staff by asking to use them. Please plan accordingly and go beforehand.Fredneck's opens at 8am, but arrive early if you are wanting to buy something inside before our hike. Represent the Buckeye Trail in a respectful manner.)Leader: Jeff Yoest, Scioto Trail Section Supervisor Pace: Slightly faster; Jeff sets the main group pace 📍 LONG HIKE STARTING POINT (Pt 26)Private Property Driveway (PreApproved by Buckeye Trail) 1778 Prussia Road Waverly, OH 45690 Coordinates: 39.163409, -82.997852 <h2>👣 How the Two Hikes Work Together</h2><ul><li>Both hikes meet at the same location (Pt 29).</li><li>They start at different locations because there was a short hike on Sunday, April 26th which went ahead of where the long hikers are.</li><li>The long hike is from Pt 26 to Pt 29, and the short hike is from Pt 31 to Pt 28-.</li><li>Since we are both covering the Pts from 28- to 29, but going in opposite directions, we will likely pass each other between these points.</li></ul> *Many hikers enjoy taking photos or short breaks—please respect varied hiking styles.*Scioto Trail is a strenuous section; choose the hike that matches your ability. <h2>🚗 Shuttle Notes</h2><ul><li>We will consolidate cars to shuttle hikers to the start.</li><li>Please ensure your vehicle can carry 2–4 passengers.</li><li>A sweep may or may not be available or needed on this particular hike—slower hikers should ensure their car is at the endpoint.</li><li>Circuit Hike Courtesy: everyone takes their turns shuttling.</li></ul> <h2>🌟 Who Can Join?</h2>These two hike options welcome beginners through advanced hikers, with a slower paced shorter hike and a faster paced longer hike—a great opportunity for all levels to experience the Buckeye Trail! *****ALL ATTENDEES MUST READ the BTA LIABILITY WAIVER HERE!**********BY JOINING THIS HIKE, YOU ARE AGREEING TO RELEASE THE BUCKEYE TRAIL ASSOCIATION AND THE HIKE LEADERS FROM ANY AND ALL LIABILITY.*****By attending this hike, you recognize and agree that you are responsible for your own welfare. We have no medical or emergency training and I am only making the arrangements for the group.Know your abilities and hike at your own risk.<ul><li>All Scioto Saturday hikes will be scheduled for the fourth Saturday of every month, except where otherwise noted.</li><li>All events are free. Please sign up on Eventbrite (click Get Tickets, select the number of people attending, and then click Register.) Look for details of the meeting place here. If you are unable to attend, please withdraw your name on Eventbrite so we know we don’t need to look for you.</li><li>Meeting times will be 8:30 am each hike except where otherwise noted. We will meet at the endpoint, then take as few cars as possible to the start point. We will hike back to the endpoint, and the people who left cars there will shuttle the others back to their cars. COMMON CIRCUIT HIKING COURTESY is to take your turn shuttling. If you don’t have to shuttle on one hike, please volunteer on the next one.</li><li>Be prompt. We will leave the parking area for the start point at 8:30. If you are running a few minutes late, please call me at (614) 949-4722. If you are more than a few minutes late, drive to the start point to park and be prepared to catch up to the group on your own.</li><li>We will hike rain or shine, but not in dangerous weather. Please check your email the morning of every hike for last minute details or cancellations.</li><li>Please bring 2-3 liters of water, in addition to a lunch or snacks that you normally eat on trail.</li><li>Most of the main hikes are around 10ish miles. If you choose, you may opt for the shorter hikes, which will take 10 hikes instead of 6 to complete the entire Scioto section, so will include some additional days separate from the main hike days.</li></ul> If you have any questions, please email CentralOhio@BuckeyeTrail.org
