Searching for Life Among the Stars
Explore one of humanity's biggest questions with Distant Worlds – Alien Life? and The Late Summer Triangle
Join us at the Blake Planetarium for a fascinating journey into the search for life beyond Earth and an exploration of the late summer night sky.
Our feature presentation, Distant Worlds – Alien Life?, examines one of the most enduring questions in human history: Are we alone in the universe? For thousands of years, people have looked to the stars and wondered whether life exists elsewhere among the countless worlds scattered throughout the cosmos. Today, astronomers are beginning to uncover clues that may help answer this age-old question.
Through stunning visuals and the latest scientific discoveries, audiences will explore the vast scale of the universe and learn how scientists search for planets orbiting distant stars. Discover what makes a planet potentially habitable, how researchers detect exoplanets light-years from Earth, and why the search for life beyond our Solar System remains one of the most exciting fields in modern astronomy. As we continue to discover new worlds by the thousands, the possibility that life exists elsewhere seems more intriguing than ever.
Following the feature, guests will explore the late summer night sky and learn how to find one of the season's most recognizable celestial landmarks: the Summer Triangle. Formed by the bright stars Vega, Deneb, and Altair, the Summer Triangle is easy to locate and serves as a guide to many of the stars and constellations visible during late summer evenings. Participants will also learn how to use a simple partial-sky star map, making it easy to continue their stargazing adventures at home.
This program is perfect for curious minds of all ages who have ever looked up at the night sky and wondered what might be waiting among the stars.
