Stand Up for Freedom: A Dance Workshop with Abigail School of Dance
A Juneteenth Dance Workshop taught by instructors from Abigail School of Dance.
The dance movement tells the stories that history left unheard. Stand Up for Freedom is a dance workshop that honors the enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, who did not hear the message of freedom. Through choreography rooted in strength, resilience, and liberation, dancers will embody the struggle, the waiting, and the moment of freedom. This workshop is more than dance—it’s a journey of remembrance, expression, and standing up for those whose voices were lost to time. Also, the participants will join together to bring history to life through movement while honoring the true spirit of freedom.
Wear clothes you are comfortable moving in. This workshop is open to all ages, but is first come first serve, with a firm cap at 15 dancers.
