Summer Approaches

Summer Approaches

Greenwood ParkStoneham, MA
Overview

Please join Boot for a wildflower and plant walk before the summer solstice.

Leader: Boot Boutwell

Pace: Slow

Difficulty: Moderate, with some rocky inclines with uneven surfaces.

Appropriate for: All. Children ages 10+ welcome if accompanied by an adult.

About Boot: Roland “Boot” Boutwell, a freelance itinerant naturalist, has been leading nature walks for the Friends of the Fells for over 25 years. He has also led walks and/or taught botany programs for a number of other organizations including The Trustees of Reservations, Arlington Community Education, The Massachusetts Association of Conservation Commissions, Winchester public schools, Wright-Locke Farm in Winchester, The New England Wild Flower Society and the Massachusetts Audubon Society.

About the walk: Summer is almost here! The Summer Solstice arrives on Sunday, June 21st. Join Boot Boutwell at Greenwood Park two days before for a nature walk in search of wildflowers and other cool plants. The walk will focus on plant ID as well as on fun and interesting natural history about the plants we see. We’ll also talk about the science of the solstice and why day length changes over the course of the year.

We’ll meet at the Greenwood Park parking lot, 176 Pond St in Stoneham across the street from the Stone Zoo. Steady rain cancels.

**Please do not register unless you can absolutely attend this walk. We often have waitlists and would like as many folks as possible to be able to attend.**

Contact: For information, call Boot Boutwell at 781-729-4712 for questions or concerns.

Dogs: This program is not suitable for our furry friends (it's a moderate hike with uneven terrain). Please take a look at our calendar for other walks that are good for dogs to join!

Please note: Emails from Eventbrite may end up in your spam folder. Please check your spam folder if you have registered for the waitlist to ensure that you are receiving the email notifications. We also suggest removing Eventbrite from your spam sender list.
