Temples and Teahouses! A beginning 2-Class Landscape Series 6/7 & 6/14/26

Online event
Overview

An in-depth virtual Brush Painting series depicting landscapes of Japan in the Summertime! Sundays - 6/7 & 6/14/26 @ 12-3pm MST.

***PLEASE NOTE - If you are signing up after May 29th, you must have your basic supplies as there probably will not be enough time to get your supplies from Oriental Art Supply'for the first class. A full supply list is sent immediately upon registration but, please, feel free to contact the host: leighanicole@gmail.com to see how your home supplies translate.

Join us celebrating the coming of Summertime as seen in the mountains of Japan! For both classes we will be using the cool Dragon Cloud semi-sized paper from OAS as well as learning how to use the traditional Mineral Paints - Stone Blue and Stone Green.

In our first class 6/7, we will be painting a Teahouse I had the good fortune to visit last year in the beautiful Ritsurin Gardens on the Island of Shikoku. This sweet Teahouse is called, "Kikugetsutei" which means 'Moon Scooping Pavilion' inspired by a Chinese poem from the Tang Dynasty about holding the moon in your hands while scooping water. This class will be dedicated to getting to know our Rose colored Dragon Cloud paper through simple faded background mountains as well as learning to depict a few lake shores and banks.

In our second class 6/14, we will round out our landscape skills painting the historic Yamadera Temple atop Mt. Hoju in Yamagata prefecture built in 867AD. The infamous poet Basho stoped here in 1689 and composed the following haiku, "Ah, the quiet. But, piercing the rocks, the cry of the cicada." This lesson will cover clouds and mist on our Steel Dragon Cloud paper as well as the classic Po Mo landscape techniques of outlining in light ink and filling in with a beautiful palette of vibrant mineral colors.

Tuition for our step-by-step classes always includes a CLASS RECORDING for you to download and review at your leisure + optional weekly homework critiques to provide private customized learning and lesson integration.

***If you are a brand new brush painter, Leigha will arrive 30 minutes before the first class begins on 2/8 for beginner painters to introduce them to brush holding and preparing so, we can make the most of our class time together exploring our landscapes.***
