The Battle of Monterey Pass Tour & More
Discover facts about PA's 2nd largest C.W. battle, fought on Gettysburg Retreat, July 4-5, 1863. Facts, history walk, Q&A w/ Michaux Brews.
The Battle of Monterey Pass is not an easy battle to understand. Following the his defeat at Gettysburg, Confederate Commander Robert E. Lee focused on the logistics of moving his long train of wagons, supplies, and wounded men over South Mountain and onto safely crossing the Potomac River. Monterey Pass sat at the fulcrum of the entangled retreat from Gettysburg. John Miller, county historian of 18th century and Civil War history, chronicles the Battle of Monterey Pass, brings the history to life with key facts, and interprets the Civil War history of Franklin County through the exhibits of the Monterey Pass Battlefield Museum.
Enjoy a walk of history along the route that wagons traversed in 1863 and wrap the evening with a lively Question & Answer session over locally crafted beer at Michaux Brewing Co.
Event is especially planned for Franklin County Certified Tourism Ambassadors (CTAs) but is open to the public and those interested in learning more about the Franklin County CTA program.
