Join the Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter for our Walks, Talks, & Workshops! This community education series created for adults features a selection of fun opportunities to learn about the natural world around us.

This talk will take place on Zoom. Once registered, you will receive instructions for how to access the webinar in your confirmation email. We will also be recording this program and will share it with registrants afterward. This event is part of Swaner's <a href="https://extension.usu.edu/swaner/education/walks-talks-workshops" title="https://extension.usu.edu/swaner/education/walks-talks-workshops" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Walks, Talks, &amp; Workshops</a> program.Moose are an icon of the Wasatch Back—they’re one of the most dangerous animals in North America. Every year, more people are injured by moose than by bears in many regions. Why? Because moose are huge, fast, and very protective of their space, especially mothers with calves and during fall rut. These large ungulates are seen often all across our community and occasionally on the Swaner Preserve. This event will explore the natural history of moose as well as ways to stay safe in moose country.This event is designed for adults.About the Expert: Dr. David Stoner is an Assistant Professor of Wildlife Extension, and Lecturer in the Dept. of Wildland Resources at Utah State University. He conducts applied ecological research on large mammals at landscape scales and uses the principles of wildlife management, landscape ecology, and biogeography to inform spatial and demographic analyses of species responses to plant phenology, exploitation, and habitat fragmentation in the mountain West. He works on projects with topics from cougars and wild horses to natural water sources and light pollution with partners including the US Geological Survey, NASA, Utah Public Lands Initiative, Nevada Department of Wildlife, and Utah Division of Wildlife Resources.
