Tube the James: Canoe to Dixon Landing

Overview

Set out on a relaxing ranger-guided tubing adventure as you float from Canoe Landing to Dixon Landing along the scenic James River!

This approximately 2-mile trip generally takes around two hours, depending on river flow. As you drift downstream, our knowledgeable river guides will share stories of the James River’s history, point out aquatic wildlife, and highlight the unique plants and animals that make this stretch of river so special.

New to tubing? This tour is perfect for beginners. Our guides will go over essential safety tips and help you feel comfortable navigating the river’s gentle currents. Every float offers something different, who knows what we’ll spot along the way!

Program Details

Must be at least 6 years old to participate

Children ages 6–12 must be accompanied by a guardian

No fishing or pets permitted on the paddle

Participants must remain with the group

All paddlers are required to wear a properly fitted personal floatation device (PFD). PFDs must be worn for the duration of the trip

All equipment (Canoes, Paddles, and PFDs) is provided

Participants will meet river guides at Dixon Landing and be transported to Canoe Landing. Tours are weather- and river-dependent and may be cancelled due to thunderstorms, unsuitable water levels, or unsafe river flow rates.

Advance registration is required. Space is limited to 10 participants.

Please meet at Dixon Landing. Please wear comfortable (and moisture-wicking) clothes, no cotton, and closed-toe shoes that you don't mind getting wet/muddy. All materials provided. Suitable for ages 6+. All participants should bring snacks, plenty of water, sunscreen, and a change of clothing. Parks are for everyone, please let us know if you need special accommodation.
