Build VOGs to help save our bay!
IF THE EVENT IS FULL, YOU ARE STILL ABLE TO REGISTER FOR THE WAITLIST
Come join City of Oldsmar Environmental Management staff to discuss the importance of vertical oyster gardens (VOGs), how to install them, and make them using pre-drilled, recycled oyster shells. This workshop will be held on Friday, June 26th, from 9am-10:30am. Join us at Shelter 1 at R.E. Olds Park in Oldsmar, FL.
Oysters are an essential part of our Tampa Bay ecosystem. One oyster can filter 50 gallons of water per day, contributing to a cleaner bay. They also provide habitat and are a food source for many marine species, including fish, birds, crab, shrimp, etc.
You can help increase our oyster population by creating VOGs and taking them home to hang on your dock or seawall. Over time, oyster larvae will settle on the recycled shells and become adult oysters. Please note that these VOGs are only appropriate for brackish waters.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
*Please only sign up for ONE spot per household. Pre-registration is required.
*More than one VOG may be made and taken home, while supplies last.
