Walking Tour | Pasadena Hotels, Motels & Resorts: The History of Overnight Accommodations in Pasadena
Saturday, August 22 | 10:00 to 12:00 pm
Although Pasadena started as a small agricultural community, the mid-1880s arrival of the railroad and opening of the Raymond Hotel inaugurated a new era focused on tourism and hospitality. Join PMH Curator Julia Long and walk the streets of Old Pasadena and the Civic Center to discover both the obvious and hidden vestiges of hotels such as Castle Green, Hotel Carver, and the Maryland Hotel that once welcomed thousands of visitors to the Crown City. Explore the multifaceted evolution of tourism from the 19th century to the present day and learn how these changes are reflected in Pasadena’s built heritage.
This tour will start at E. Dayton Street & Fair Oaks Ave. (Northwest corner of Central Park) and end on S. Raymond Ave. and E. Holly Street.
Space is limited; advance reservations required.
A lecture on Pasadena Hotels, Motels & Resorts is scheduled for Thursday, August 20 at 7:00 pm. For more information and tickets, click here.
