Join HVA staff for a paddle on the Wild & Scenic Housatonic River!
Join the Housatonic Valley Association for a paddle in Kent, CT, on a portion of the beautiful Wild & Scenic Housatonic River as part of our 2026 Celebrate Our Watershed event series! This leisurely paddle is appropriate for all levels and is perfect for those looking to get on the water and experience the scenic landscapes of our magnificent region from a new perspective.
The group will meet at 9 a.m. at the Kent School dock, where we will unload boats and aim to be on the water by 9:30 a.m. This will be an out-and-back paddle and is expected to take 3 to 4 hours (water level & group dependent). Participants will receive an email from Amanda Colley, HVA's Environmental Education Coordinator (acolley@hvatoday.org), before the event with all logistics and details. HVA reserves the right to cancel the event if needed.
Some boats (two-person canoes) can be reserved—see check-out for reserving a canoe. If coming alone, participants will be matched with another attendee. If providing your own boat, participants must provide boat, paddle, and personal flotation devices (PFDs). PFDs must be worn at all times during the paddle.
NOTE: Participants should bring water, snacks, sunscreen, and bug spray. Participants must choose appropriate clothing dependent on temperature (no cotton) and must be prepared for cold water.
The only conservation organization dedicated to the entire tri-state Housatonic River watershed, the Housatonic Valley Association acts to protect the natural character and environmental health of the region, from the Berkshires to Long Island Sound, through river restoration projects, land conservation, and educational programs.
