In this class, we cover a wide variety of essential woodworking topics designed to help beginners feel comfortable, confident, and capable in the shop. Whether you’re brand‑new to woodworking or looking to strengthen your foundation, this session gives you the knowledge and hands‑on experience you need to get started safely and successfully.
We’ll explore core shop safety, proper machine operation, and practical techniques you can use in future projects. You’ll also learn basic lumber concepts, including how to identify different types of wood, understand grain direction, and recognize the differences between softwoods and hardwoods. Everything is taught at a relaxed pace, with plenty of demonstrations and guided practice.
This class is designed to be interactive—bring your questions, your curiosity, and anything you’ve always wondered about woodworking. We’re here to help you build confidence one step at a time.
Tools You’ll Be Using
You’ll receive beginner‑friendly instruction and hands‑on practice with the following machines, each taught with a focus on Safety, Operation, and Technique:
- Planer — Learn how to safely prepare lumber and create smooth, even surfaces
- Table Saw — Understand accurate ripping, crosscutting, and safe body positioning
- Miter Saw — Practice clean, precise crosscuts and angle cuts
- Bandsaw — Explore safe straight and curved cutting techniques
- Drill Press — Learn controlled drilling, depth stops, and bit selection
