World Oceans Day Cleanup at  Plumb Beach

The Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy (JBRPC)is a public-private partnership established in 2013 that is dedicated to improving the 10,000 acres of public parkland throughout Jamaica Bay and the Rockaway Peninsula for local residents and visitors alike. With its partners at the National Park Service, the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation and the New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation JBRPC works to expand public access; increase recreational and educational opportunities; foster citizen stewardship and volunteerism; preserve and restore natural areas, including wetland and wildlife habitat; enhance cultural resources; and ensure the long-term sustainability of the parklands. 2026 JBRPC Stewardship Cleanup Events

JBRPC leads cleanups across Jamaica Bay and the Rockaways, mobilizing volunteers to remove debris, protect wildlife habitats, and restore shorelines while building community stewardship and environmental awareness.

In honor of World Ocean's Day volunteers will help remove debris from the shoreline, marsh, and Greenway surrounding Plumb Beach, part of Gateway National Recreation Area.Gloves, bags, and tools will be provided. Volunteers are encouraged to wear weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy, closed-toe shoes and bring their own water and sunscreen. The event is rain or shine.Important things to note:The meeting location will be by the purple roundhouse. There are Porta Pottys on site, but volunteers are encouraged to use the restroom before the event. Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy Community Stewardship Programs are generously supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies, Con Edison, NYC Green Fund, and NYC Ferry, operated by Hornblower. Public funding is provided by NY Senator Roxanne Persaud, Assemblymembers Stacey Pheffer-Amato and Jaime R. Williams, NYC Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, NYC Council Majority Whip Selvena Brooks-Powers, NYC Council Minority Leader Joann Ariola and NYC Council Member Mercedes Narcisse.
