Colonial Pullman Company, LLC
We operate the Colonial Crafts, an historic Pullman railcar available for your use throughout the United States. We offer scheduled and chartered vintage railway travel experiences. The Colonial Crafts was built in 1949 for the Pennsylvania Railroad. It has four bedrooms, each with a private bathroom. There is a shower at the end of the hall, a small kitchen, and a very large lounge area that comfortably seats 20 people during daytime travel. Your journey includes all meals and beverages served by our professional staff including a Porter, Steward, and Chef. The Pullman Company assigned this car to Elvis Presley in 1960 after he returned from military service overseas. He used the car to travel from New Jersey to Graceland, and then he went to Los Angeles where he completed filming the movie, “G. I. Blues”.
Our goal is to preserve the originality of the Colonial Crafts while keeping it operational and relevant for modern day guests. We want to share this historical treasure with other people to promote American railroads.
Privately owned passenger railcars like the Colonial Crafts receive NO GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY. Rather, privately owned passenger cars pay millions of dollars per year to Amtrak, directly reducing Amtrak’s subsidy requirement. Like dozens of other privately owned passenger cars, the Colonial Crafts pays Amtrak over $25,000 storage fees per year and $4.54 per mile traveled (~ $100,000 per year).
