St. Ann's Kennebunkport
St. Ann’s Church Kennebunkport is an active, Episcopal congregation and we welcome people from all faith traditions to participate in Sunday services, celebrations and events. Listed on the National Historic Register, our spectacular oceanfront buildings and grounds are open to visitors daily from June to September. Events take place in our picturesque Stone Chapel that has been in continuous use as a summer chapel since 1892.
The current site was donated by the Kennebunkport Seashore Company and included the rights to gather and use the large sea-washed stones at hand for construction of our Stone Chapel. The roof over the central part of the church is framed with hard pine hammer beam trusses and the floor is cleft slate. Our outside Seaside Chapel occupies an awe-inspiring setting that overlooks the Gulf of Maine on the Atlantic Ocean. The rectory on site was built in 1891 as a private home for the Nesmith family of Lowell, MA and was purchased in 1910 by Arthur Atwater Kent, the noted inventor. In 1970 a loan from the G.H. Walker Foundation made it possible for the church to purchase both the home and the property.
Visitors are asked to wear shirts and shoes and refrain from smoking. You are welcome to picnic and we ask that you help maintain the property by taking all refuse with you. We welcome your well-behaved and leashed pets. Please be sure to take with you any “deposits” your pet might make on the grounds. During open hours, visitors are welcome to take photos for personal use inside the Stone Chapel and on the grounds, unless otherwise noted. Flash photography is permitted. No photography is allowed during services inside the Stone Chapel or at the Seaside Chapel. Drones are not allowed on the property.
