The Plans We Made
Drama about love, sobriety, and the quiet devastation of addiction
The Plans We Made by Dr. Danielle Bacibianco (playwright and director) is a drama about two women trying to love each other through sobriety, relapse, and the weight addiction has on their lives. Set inside a cramped Staten Island apartment, the play follows Grey and Aurora after meeting in AA, who build a relationship out of shared recovery, desire, and the hope of becoming different people together. But because recovery is only "one day at a time" Grey begins to question her sobriety and in the process of doing so, further drifts into relapse and emotional distance, while Aurora keeps reaching for the version of their life that they once dreamed of. The play fragments intimacy through movement, conversations, and music, where what was said lingers and slowly begins to fade. The world of the play shifts fluidly between realism and something more cinematic, as both Grey and Aurora trace the rhythms of addiction, longing, and queer desire. As Aurora says: "Love was never the problem. It's what you loved more."
The Plans We Made will be playing at The American Theater For Actors inside the Beckman Theatre, as a part of The Midtown International Theatre Festival, from June 16th-22nd
